Part 5 of 5 · 3 minEveryone’s Moon
"The moon is gone," Tilly whispered, her voice trembling just a little. She stared at the fluffy white cloud that now covered the night sky like a soft hat. "It hid itself again."
Bumble buzzed happily next to her ear, his wings vibrating with energy. "No! It's not gone, Tilly. It's just playing hide-and-seek. Remember what Ollie said? The moon travels for everyone. Maybe it's peeking out at us right now from a different angle."
Pip yawned, stretching his paws high in the air. "I think I see a faint glow through the cloud," he murmured sleepily. "It looks… rounder than before. And warmer."
Tilly tilted her head back, squinting against the soft light filtering through the misty layer. At first, the moon seemed small and distant, like a secret only she could hold. But as they stood together in the quiet forest, watching the cloud drift slowly across the sky, something changed. The glowing disk didn't just appear; it grew brighter, filling their faces with a gentle silver light that felt like a hug from above.
"It's not just my moon anymore," Tilly said softly. She turned to face her friends, and for the first time, she truly understood what Ollie had meant. "It's ours. And maybe… maybe it belongs to every single creature in the world, too. The way I see it might be different from how you see it, Bumble. Or Pip."
Bumble giggled, his yellow fuzz bouncing with delight. "Different but wonderful! If I see a round moon, maybe you see a smiling one. And if Pip sees a sleepy moon, that's okay too!" He fluttered his wings excitedly. "Look! The cloud is moving! There it goes again!"
Sure enough, the thick white layer slid aside like a curtain being pulled back by an invisible hand. The full, glowing moon revealed itself once more, hanging low in the sky and casting long, dancing shadows that looked like swirling ribbons of silk. Tilly couldn't help but laugh, a bright, clear sound that echoed through the trees.
"You're right!" she cried out, spinning in a circle as her shadow twisted into a funny shape against the bark of an old oak tree. "If we all look up together, we see different moons, but they're all part of the same big, beautiful sky."
Pip scratched his head with one paw, still looking a bit sleepy but clearly pleased. "I think I'll build us a blanket fort under it," he announced suddenly, as if he'd just remembered something important. "We can watch the moon travel and make sure nobody gets left out of its special journey."
Tilly's eyes sparkled with delight at the idea. She imagined their little camp made of soft moss leaves and woven vine ropes, perfect for huddling close together under the vast canopy of stars. "Let's do it!" she agreed cheerfully.
The three friends began to gather materials immediately—leaves, feathers, and sturdy twigs—to craft their cozy shelter. As they worked, Bumble told them silly jokes about how the moon looked like a giant cheese wheel or a shiny disco ball, making Tilly and Pip laugh until their sides hurt. The air around them felt warm and safe, filled with the hum of insects and the rustle of leaves dancing in the night breeze.
As they finished their fort, they sat inside together, looking up at the moon that seemed to glow even brighter because of their shared excitement. Tilly realized then that the real treasure wasn't owning something; it was sharing the wonder of seeing it with loved ones.
