In a small village there lived three naughty children called Ramu, Somu and Chitti.

Instead of going to school, they liked climbing trees, chasing birds and frightening the people at home.

One evening, while they were playing near the old well, they saw a tiny little ghost.

She had a small white body, big eyes and a sweet smile. She was not the kind of ghost that scares you. She was very, very cute.

“I’m Bulli. I don’t have any friends. Will you play with me?” she asked.

All three of them were delighted. “Yes! Come and get up to mischief with us!” they said.

From that day on, they got up to mischief together.

Bulli would float through the air and put out the lamps in people’s houses. The children would bang on doors and run away. Everyone in the village was frightened.

A few days later, they came across a little girl who was crying. Her mother was ill, and the little girl could hardly sleep at night, because every night she was afraid the ghost would come.

Bulli looked at the little girl and felt very sad.

“I thought we were only playing for fun. But they are really scared,” she said.

Ramu, Somu and Chitti understood too.

They went to the little girl’s house and introduced her to Bulli. Bulli showed her a tiny bubble of light and kept watch over her until she fell asleep.

From that day on, they gave up their mischief.

They began helping other children and making friends with anyone who was lonely. And Bulli became the little friend everyone in the village loved.

Moral:

Mischief can be fun. But frightening others and hurting them is not fun. Real fun is friendship and helping each other.
