Start at part 1

In the village of Srisailam, a severe drought has turned the Krishna River into a shimmering ribbon of dust, and its ancient stone boat has been pulled ashore for years. The story follows Lakshmi, the daughter of the boatman who once ferried the faithful across these holy waters, as she seeks to understand why her father refuses to launch the craft again and what dark truths the drying mud might reveal about the gods themselves.
As Lakshmi digs through old parchments and interviews the weary elders, she discovers that the river's blessing is not merely a matter of weather but of ancient bargains made between mortals and deities. The gods are no longer content to be distant observers; they have grown restless in their hunger, and the boatman's final crossing will depend on whether Lakshmi can negotiate a new pact before the last drop of water vanishes forever.
