The Man Behind Me
Every evening after tuition, twenty steps behind. Same turns. He stops when I stop.
A new neighbour takes his tea at the shop outside the tuition master's house, and every evening he walks twenty steps behind the boy, through the dark lane, all the way home. He never comes closer and never says a word. On the seventh day the boy runs the whole way crying.
